I learned to value people, and that’s the lesson I will take to Frankfort.
I attended Botts Elementary School and am a 1979 graduate of Menifee County High School. I attended the University of Wyoming from 1979-80 and the University of Kentucky from 1980-82.
After several years in the School of Hard Knocks, I returned to college at Morehead State University where I received a Bachelor's degree in Journalism with a minor in English in 1986.
After four years of working as a journalist in eastern Kentucky, I returned to Morehead State, where I earned a Master of Arts in English in 1992. My master's emphasis was in creative writing and English Renaissance literature.
I have pursued extensive readings, both in the classroom and for my own personal interests, in American history, philosophy, religious texts, Native American history and culture, multiple genres of American literature, Victorian literature, and Russian literature and history.
Those who have visited my personal Facebook page will see that I have a strong interest in writing and am especially interested in the essay format. I also dabble in short stories and long fiction. I am particularly interested in oral history, especially the stories of people from the 74th district.
